The
7 feasts have historical, prophetical and spiritual
aspects. They were Holy Convocations unto the Lord.
Study No.1 The Feast of Passover - Leviticus
23:4-5
First feast in the year - See Exodus 12:2
(Beginning of months)
Foundational feast - all others flow from it -
Unleavened Bread, Firstfruits, Pentecost, Trumpets,
Atonement and Tabernacles
The Passover feast is:
Memorial of events in Exodus 11 & 12. Prophetical of
Christ as Lamb of God. Typical of importance of
Redemption
THE FIRST PASSOVER EXODUS 11 & 12
I. NEED FOR REDEMPTION
1. The chosen people were in bondage in Egypt (the
world)
2. Israelites were guilty - Ezekiel 20:7-8
3. Every house was to have a death - Exodus 11:5
4. God will make a difference between Israelites and
Egyptians - Ex 11:7
5. For God to be just, yet be gracious to Israel , a
sacrifice is needed - Exodus 12:27
II. NATURE OF THIS REDEMPTION
By a lamb (substitute)
1. LAMB - SELECTED - Exodus 2:3,5
See 1 Peter 1:19 Blemish = scratch or cut. Spot = sign
of inward impurity. Christ had neither
2. LAMB - SCRUTINISED - Exodus 12:6
a. by foes - Judas - Matt 12:4 & Pilate - Luke 23:4
b. friends cp Ex 12:9
Three parts of the Lamb are mentioned
Head - Intellect - PAUL 'Who knew no sin' 2 Cor
5:21
Purtenance - Emotion - JOHN 'In him is no sin' 1
John 3:5
Legs - Action - PETER 'Who did no sin' 1 Peter
2:22
3. LAMB - SLAIN - Ex 12:6
Thousands of lambs slain that night, yet the lamb was
always referred to in the singular pointing to 'THE
Lamb of God'
4. LAMB'S BLOOD - SPRINKLED - Ex 12:7
Blood had to be applied
III. NIGHT OF REDEMPTION Ex 12:12-13
Death in every house! Either the first born or the Lamb
died
God did not look on the type of house or the occupants,
but on the BLOOD
The BLOOD made Israelites SAFE - GOD'S WORD made them
SURE
'Judgment God won't twice demand, first at my blessed
surety's hand and then again at mine'
Ex 12:3 A lamb - v4 THE lamb - V5 YOUR
lamb
When Christ becomes YOUR lamb you can then enjoy
the six other feasts
For 3,500 years the Jews have celebrated the Passover.
The deliverance of Israel from Egypt is the central
point in Jewish history and worship, even as Calvary is the
central point in the Christian Faith.
In Luke 22:15 Christ desired to keep the Passover before
He suffered. The 'Lamb of God' who was the final reality
of the Passover feast was about to shed his blood to
redeem sinners that they might be set free from the
bondage of the Egypt of sin to live a new life of
liberty.
As he left the Passover He sang Psalm 118. Matt 26:30
'Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us' 1 Cor
5:7
