Study No.5 The Feast of Trumpets Leviticus
23:23-25
Held on Day 1 of the 7th month in religious calender
(Sept/Oct)
The 1st day of the civil year.
To be a Holy Sabbath - no unnecessary work.
To focus peoples attention on the coming 'Day of
Atonement' and the 'Feast of Tabernacles'.
Offerings were to be sacrificed cp Num 29:1-6
MODERN OBSERVANCE
Jews believer on the 'Feast of Trumpets' books are
opened in preparation of the Judgment Day and on the Day
of Atonement the righteous are entered into Book of
Life; evil are sealed for doom, Psa 69:28
PROPHETIC
The first four feasts were associated with the first
Coming of Messiah. The last three with his Second
Coming. It occurs after Pentecost and before the Day of
Atonement
The re-gathering to the land of Israel - Isa 27:12,13
THE MEANING OF TRUMPETS
They signified voice of Jehovah - Num 10:1-10
Trumpets were the means he used to communicate with and
instruct his people
To assemble for war and for worship. As an alarm.
To attack. To announce feast days and
sacrifices.
Rev 1:10 Saviour's voice was like a Trumpet.
The sound of a Trumpet is symbolic for the command 'BEHOLD'
TRUMPETS IN SCRIPTURE
1. TRUMPET OF SINAI - Ex 19:16,19
'BEHOLD I was shapen in iniquity' Psa 51:5
The trumpet sounded to emphasise the Holiness of God and
the sinfulness of man
On the 'Feast of Trumpets' the reading of God's Law
brought conviction - Neh 8:1-12
God's witnesses are to lift up their voice as a trumpet
to tell men their sin - Isa 58:1
2. TRUMPET OVER THE SACRIFICES - Lev 23:25
Num 10:10; Num 29:1-6
The trumpets were blown to draw the attention of the
people to the sacrifices.
We like John the Baptist are to call people's attention
to Christ - 'BEHOLD the Lamb of God' John
1:29; Heb 12:18-24
3. TRUMPET AT THE SECOND COMING
'BEHOLD He cometh' - Rev 1:7; Zech 9:14
To assemble believers - 1 Cor 15:32; Matt 24:31; 1 Thess
4:16
To Alarm and Attack his enemies - Rev 8:2; 11:15-19
God gives us victory as we sound out these Trumpets:
illustrated in Joshua 6 (Jericho) and Judges 7 (Gideon)
Until we hear God's trump let us as a church 'Sound
out the Word of the Lord' 1 Thess 1:8
