Study No.4 The Feast of Pentecost
This feast was to do with the Wheat Harvest Ex 34:22
Devout Jews were commanded to attend the Temple on this
day Ex 34:23 cp Acts 2:1; 20:16; 1 Cor 16:8
Jews believe that the events at Sinai (the birthplace of
Judaism and giving of the Law) occurred on the date of
Pentecost.
I. SPECIAL FEATURES OF THE FEAST - LEV 23

Length of time v15-16
a. Fifty days after 'Firstfruits' - 'Pentecost' is
Greek word for fifty
b. fifty days after Resurrection the events of Acts 2
took place
c. Many who had been in Jerusalem when Christ was
crucified would have returned
2. Loaves of Bread v17
a. Made of wheat - cp Jon 12:24
b. A NEW meal offering v16
c. Grains baked together 1 Cor 10:17; 12:12-13
d. Two loaves. Jew and Gentile. Eph 2:11-14
e. Contained leaven
3. List of Offerings v18-20
a. Burnt, Meal and Drink v18-20
b. Sin Offering v19. Lev 4:28 For sin of ignorance. cp
Luke 23:34; Acts 2:23; 3:17 & 1 Cor 2:8
c. Peace offering v20 cp Lev 3:11 with chp 7:11-13
II. THE SPIRIT CAME AT PENTECOST - ACTS 2
1. Where
I believe at the Temple
a. The court could hold up to 210,000 people
b. Christ himself often taught in the Temple
c. Devout Jews from all over the world would gather in
the temple Acts 27:9
d. After Christ's Ascension the disciple were 'continually'
in the Temple - Luke 24:52,53 cp Acts 2:46, 3:1, 5:42
e. The Temple would fulfill the Old Testament prophecies
- Ezekiel 47:1-8, Joel 2:28-32, 3:18
2. WHEN
a. After Christ ascended to Glory
b. On the day of Pentecost
c. On a Sunday
3. WHY
a. To exalt the Saviour
b. To endue his servants
III. SINAI COMPARED WITH PENTECOST
1. Sign and wonders at both Ex 19:16; Heb 12:18-23
2. Sinai was the birthplace of Judaism - Pentecost was
the birthplace of the New Testament Church
3. At the giving of the Law 3,000 were slain Ex 32:28
At the giving of the spirit 3,000 were saved Acts 2:41
'Be filled with the spirit' Eph 5:18
